That’s Not Who We Are As A Nation?

You might wonder what Donald Trump thinks (pardon the apparent oxymoron) in his squirming, saurian brain, about crazy Republican children running around with assault rifles now that one of them shot him; but I suspect he has a bumper-sticker perspective, as always. Incredibly, Trump’s sycophants are blaming Democrats for the shooting because they’re talking about a palpable, real global fear of a brutal Trump dictatorship allied with the New Axis of Evil. They don’t want the Democrats to talk about that because it must be hurting them at the polls.

Republican apologist and both-sides journalism hack  Judy Woodruff at PBS wants you to understand your drunk MAGA uncle’s feelings. She wants you to seat him at the head of your table at Thanksgiving again. She thinks Trump’s shooting isn’t who we are as a people, or as as a nation. I’ve got a news flash for Ms Woodruff: Shooting an ex-president is, in fact, exactly who we are as a people, and as a nation.     Continue reading

No Country For Old Men

It isn’t too late for Joe Biden to leave office as a hero.

Most people in Washington — even Mr. Biden’s enemies — seem to respect him (at least, so far). He should be taking a clue from “Seinfeld” or “Cheers” and consider going out while he’s still on top, but he seems to be trying to “Jump the Shark” instead, grasping and clawing for more mileage. His party is hoping out loud: “Let it go, Joe.” They remember Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who wouldn’t step down for her country, either. It cost us Roe vs Wade.

Americans who love our democracy are asking Joe to retire and step aside — but prying the car keys away from grandpa seems problematic. Apparently, Mr. Biden needs a hearing aid, as well.      Continue reading

Democracy? Start With a Democratic Party

There is absolutely no democracy in the Democratic Party; rather, a little known twenty-two term — that’s forty-four years in office — professional politician and power broker, Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) from one of the wealthiest constituencies in the United States next to Palm Beach makes the decision as to who the party allows to run for office …and who doesn’t get to run as a Democrat. These are black box decisions made in a metaphorical smoky back room behind closed doors. The Democrat party might as well be a dictatorship for all that — you have no say in the matter. Your only option is to buy a bazillion dollar home in Potomac, MD, or San Francisco, CA, and vote them out of our misery.
Congresswoman and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stayed on as his front-facing mouthpiece while Steny remains in the shadows.       Continue reading

Thank You For Your Service, Joe.

You’ve done an okay job, Mr. Biden: You brought America back onto the world stage as an almost-trusted partner again; brought stability to the Oval Office, and did a reasonable job of handling our economy. Americans are also indebted to you for slightly delaying the ongoing fascist coup …until the next election; but your handling of the Ukraine War has been too little-too late… and next to no one supports your policy on the Israeli War (not even the Israelis). You claim good things for infrastructure, though most people, including myself, haven’t seen it yet. While an unfavorable media environment set the stage, you are a very unpopular president because your style of consensus building and bi-partisan co-operation are an anachronism that reflects a bygone era. When you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. When you compromise a sane policy with extremists, the result is worse policy, not better.

You obviously feel like you have a lot of miles left in the tank …but you don’t. Your nation is engaged in an epic, global battle of wits and endurance …and you’re eighty-plus. There are good reasons we’ve never had an eighty-five year old president.

Democrats watched in slow-motion horror as Ruth Bader Ginsberg clawed and grasped after more power until the very end. It cost America Roe v.s Wade. With a little push, it might cost us our democracy.

In your recent debate, we watched in horror as you misspoke, mumbled, and had McConnell-sized minutes in the ozone. Mitch hit his head and had a concussion as his excuse, but Presidential debates matter, Mr Biden.     Continue reading

Price-Gouge Depot

Price Gouging? Home Depot, I’m looking straight at you, pal. Don’t retail merchants realize I won’t shop with them again if they rip me off? Home Depot has been ripping us off for years, but their post-COVID greed — their raw, naked corporate greed — is obscene on its face. So it’s goodbye Home Depot, hello Grainger!

I’d rather pay McMasters, Grainger, or Northern Tool’s at-cost shipping prices for products that work without crapping out for a fair price, than have to  endure the shame of knowing I’m being cheated, but continue to shop there anyway. If convenience is the price I have to pay to dump ’em… so be it.
