Joe Murrey is a retired engineer, technical writer, and a consultant living outside of the Beltway in the Washington, D.C. area. He has worked as an electro-mechanical process engineer for large scale integrated circuit and semiconductor foundries; also, he worked as a System Engineering Technical Advisor (SETA) for software and network development, and, in addition, worked for almost twenty years as a senior technical writer for civilian government contracts. Mr. Murrey’s educational background is in Electrical Engineering and in Manufacturing, Semiconductor Processes (AAS). Undergraduate coursework I tried on for size included Advertising Art, Commercial Photography, and Geopolitics; as well as Dean of the Department of English Select Seminar for Creative Writing at North Texas (State) University. His personal interests include catch-and-eat fly-fishing, woodworking, photography, cinema, geopolitics, and progressive jazz rock, especially Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, and King Crimson.
As a side note to the aforementioned Dean’s Select Seminar: The Dean of English told me in front of the entire class that I would never amount to anything as a writer. I wonder if she put a curse on my career or just guessed lucky …?
