Photographs

These photos were taken with small, medium, and large format film cameras.  I love the fine mechanical cameras of yesteryear: Linhof, Hasselblad, and Leica cameras I used over the years were, in and of themselves, art.  Fine film cameras were always a sensual pleasure to use when I could rarely afford them …but the fortunate reality of photo image quality is that the camera body is nothing more than a black box to keep extraneous light from exposing the film or digital back.  Some images displayed here were taken with a basic $120 Calumet view camera (a “black box),” and high-quality Schneider-Kreuznach lenses. I once worked in a camera store in downtown Seattle that encouraged the sales force (me and another guy) to borrow and use lenses so we could speak “confluently” with professional photographers. Naturally, many of my personal photos were taken with these borrowed lenses —  they were all more or less excellent.
